August 7, 2022 – United Soccer League Championship (USL)Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release

Colorado Springs, CO – The Switchbacks FC earned a penalty kick in the final minutes of stoppage time against OC, nabbing a point off an equalizing goal to finish the match 3-3.

After a disappointing loss against Phoenix Rising the previous week, the Switchbacks were looking to earn a comeback and a potential sweep against the reigning Champions, Orange County. The team looked strong to start, holding 65% of the possession in the first 27 minutes of the game and having several near misses, including a shot by #14 Jairo Henriquez in the 24th minutes and another threaded by #11 Michee Ngalina in the 27th, both of which would just barely miss the net.

The first goal on the board was earned by COS as Ngalina winged the ball in off a beautiful assist by #6 Cam Lindley. Only six minutes later #10 Hadji Barry would get a strong chance off a pass by Henriquez, but would shoot just wide of the net. A handball by the Switchbacks awarded OC a PK in the 45th minute, and the two teams would enter halftime tied 1-1.

Orange County came out swinging in the second half, and only one minute in earned their second goal of the night off a corner kick. They would bring the score 3-1 in the 73rd minute, after multiple substitutions by both teams.

The Switchbacks don’t give up though, and #23 Elvis Amoh had a huge goal in the 80th minute, only 24 minutes into his game play for the night, as he headed the ball directly into the back of the net with ease.

Barry would ultimately be the one to earn the Switchbacks their equalizing point. After a free kick goes wide, the Switchbacks earned a PK after a handball from OC. Hadji Barry took the penalty kick, neatly tieing up the score in the 90th+ minute of play. Neither team were able to score goal number four in the dying minutes, and both teams will take home a point in the 3-3 draw.
