Rutgers women’s soccer ranked No. 6 in Preseason Coaches Poll

Rutgers women’s soccer has plenty to be proud of as season ends

After one of the best seasons in program history, Rutgers is being recognized as one of the top schools in the country. This year, they came in at No. 6 in the 2022 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women’s Preseason Poll, released on Tuesday. This is the program’s 11th season receiving votes in the national preseason poll in the last 13 years.

Just last season, the Scarlet Knights were ranked No. 25 in the preseason poll. They went on to win the Big Ten Championship and make a run to the Final Four in the College Cup. The Knights closed the season with a 18-4-2 record, and finished with their highest ranking in program history at No. 3. Rutgers is the top ranked Big Ten program in the 2022 preseason poll, followed by No. 9 Michigan and No. 14 Penn State while Purdue and Wisconsin also received votes.

Rutgers returns nine starters the exciting 2021 squad, including the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and All-Region First Teamer Riley Tiernan, and All-Region goalkeeper Meagan McClelland.

The Scarlet Knights 2021 was historic. The women captured the first Big Ten Conference title in program history and finished with a 10-0 undefeated record in conference play. Led by a program-high nine All-Big Ten selections, the team advanced to its 10th straight NCAA Tournament and first as a No. 1 seed.
