Brighton line up ex-City defender as Cucurella replacement as Chelsea switch edges closer

Reported Brighton target Angelino during a match

Brighton are reportedly interested in signing RB Leipzig left-back Angelino as Marc Cucurella’s move to Chelsea edges closer.

Manchester City made an attempt to sign Cucurella before deciding against meeting Brighton’s £50million valuation of the Spaniard.

Cucurella, De Jong among five transfers we still want to see happen this summer…

With City pretty much out of the running, Chelsea have emerged as the frontrunners to land the 24-year-old.

The Blues have agreed personal terms with Cucurella, as per Fabrizio Romano, and are now working on agreeing a fee with Albion.

The addition of Cucurella will give Thomas Tuchel two solid options in left-back with Ben Chilwell already at Stamford Bridge.

Marcos Alonso is still a Chelsea player, though he is a Barcelona target, and if this summer is anything to go by, Barca will get their man.

With such an important player set to depart the Amex, the Seagulls are on the lookout for a replacement.

According to Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Brighton have registered an interest in Leipzig left-back Angelino.

The situation could become ‘very interesting’ should Cucurella depart for west London.

Premier League club West Ham are also ‘following the situation’, while Leipzig’s Bundesliga rivals Hoffenheim are also hoping to sign Angelino on loan.

The Hammers have been linked with Eintracht Frankfurt wing-back Filip Kostic, meaning a move for Angelino might not be on the cards.

Angelino joined Leipzig from Manchester City for £16.2m after making 15 appearances for the Citizens.

The Spaniard is under contract with his current team until 2025 and is valued at £27m, as per Transfermarkt.

The Bundesliga side could be open to selling the 25-year-old after they completed the signing of David Raum from Hoffenheim.

Barcelona have ‘discussed’ the prospect of signing Angelino, as well as Marcos Alonso and Tottenham’s Sergio Reguilon, according to Fabrizio Romano.

It has been a very busy summer so far for the Catalan club, who have brought in Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde.

They have also been linked with Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva, but are unlikely to make an offer unless Frenkie de Jong leaves.

On a deal to sign Silva, Barca president Joan Laporta said: “Now we are focused on registering players we have signed and resolve the futures of the players not in the plans. After this, we will see what we can do.

“Xavi wants more reinforcements.”
