Ronaldo ‘not for sale’ at Man Utd, Bailly ‘wants to stay and fight’ as two more told they can leave

Man Utd star Cristiano Ronaldo gets off the bus

Man Utd are maintaining their stance that Cristiano Ronaldo will not be sold this summer, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

The Portugal international has reportedly asked the Red Devils’ hierarchy if he can leave the club this summer should they receive any ‘satisfactory’ offers.

Ronaldo scored 24 goals in 38 appearances in all competitions last term but couldn’t help Man Utd secure a top-four finish with the club missing out on a place in the Champions League.

Are Manchester United ripe for a Cruyff-style refresh from Ten Hag?

Their lack of ambition in the transfer market is another reason Ronaldo wants out as they continue to get bogged down in their pursuit of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

Ronaldo has missed United’s pre-season tour because of ‘family reasons’ and there seems to be a lack of genuine interest from other clubs in the Portuguese striker.

When asked for an update on Ronaldo’s situation at Old Trafford, Ten Hag said: “Concerning is maybe not the right word. I focus on the players who are there and they are doing really well.

“They are in good shape and I have further focus on that and develop that. I cannot wait for (Ronaldo) to come in and then we will integrate him.”

And Sheth insists Man Utd are not looking for a replacement for Ronaldo and that their stance on a possible transfer remains the same.

Sheth told Sky Sports: “Manchester United’s stance is unchanged on Cristiano Ronaldo – he is not for sale. United are not looking for a replacement for the Portuguese forward.”

Man Utd have got some business done this summer with Tyrell Malacia arriving from Feyenoord, Lisandro Martinez joining from Ajax and former Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen signing on a free transfer.

The deals to bring Martinez and Malacia to Man Utd could mean a number of defenders could be on their way out with Alex Telles and Brandon Williams told they can go, while Eric Bailly is attracting interest.

“Following the arrivals of Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia, United would be open to allowing Alex Telles and Brandon Williams to leave. Their game time is likely to be limited.

“United defender Eric Bailly is reportedly interesting a number of clubs – but as it stands, he wants to stay and fight for his place. ”
