CARSON, California – Atlanta United fell to LA Galaxy 2-0 on Sunday night at Dignity Health Sports Park. Spending much of the second half attacking LA’s goal, Atlanta out-shot Galaxy 12-10 on the night but were unable to find an equalizer before Dejan Joveljic ensured a win with a last-second goal.

Galaxy opened the scoring in the seventh minute through Kévin Cabral. Winning possession of the ball in Atlanta’s half, a spell of quick passing led to Douglas Costa squaring the ball for Chicharito in front of Rocco Ríos Novo’s net. The Atlanta goalkeeper was equal to Chicharito’s shot but Cabral was there to sweep the rebound into the open net.

The halftime introductions of Thiago Almada and Josef Martínez injected more creativity into the Atlanta attack; however, the visitors came up short in converting one of their six second-half chances.

A significant amount of the match’s last moments were spent in Galaxy’s defensive third but it was the hosts who scored a goal in the final seconds of the match. Víctor Vázquez squeezed a pass through to the Serbian striker Joveljic, who curled a shot inside of the right post from the left side of the box to secure three points for LA.

Atlanta (6-9-6, 24 points) travels to Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois to face off against Chicago Fire FC on Saturday, July 30 (5:00 p.m., Bally Sports South, Sports Radio 92-9 The Game, La Mejor).
