July 22, 2022 – Canadian Premier League (CPL) – Atletico Ottawa News Release
On the road again, Atlético Ottawa head down to York Lions Stadium for the second (and final) time to face York United FC in the Canadian Premier League regular season (KO 2 PM ET, live on OneSoccer). Following back-to-back draws, Atleti took solace in their impressive performances but will be keen to get back to winning ways and you can always expect a fiercely competed and cagey affair between these two Ontario rivals.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Sunday’s kick-off.
Atlético Ottawa currently sit in second place, 12 points ahead of York United (14 points) in seventh.
Ottawa remain six points clear of a “non-playoff” finish after their stalemate with Valour FC on Wednesday night.
York, on the other hand, ended a 10-game winless run last weekend when they beat league leaders Cavalry FC 1-0 at ATCO Field.
The last time these two sides met, over a month ago in the nation’s capital, they had to settle for a share of the spoils in a feisty 1-1 draw which saw both teams reduced to 10 men.
Two defensively sound teams, Ottawa and York have some stand-out players at the back.
Having won all four of his attempted tackles on Wednesday night against Valour, Miguel Acosta now sits firmly atop the list of most tackles in the CPL (31) ahead of York defender Chrisnovic N’sa in second (28)
Nathan Ingham has kept a league-leading six clean sheets (a position he shares with his opposite number on Sunday, Niko Giantsopoulos)
For the first time in the club’s history an official contingent of away fans, organized by the Capital City Supporters Group, will be heading to York to cheer on Atlético Ottawa.
It is understood that the 50+ seat bus is close to capacity with other fans making their own way to York Lions Stadium
Record head-to-head (all time): 0W-7D-2L; 9 goals scored, 11 goals conceded
Quotes
Carlos González, Atlético Ottawa Head Coach
“York are a team, like Valour, that aren’t going to make it easy for us – there are going to be similarities to our last game. This gives us a chance of continuity, to learn from our game Wednesday, where to improve and how to develop for the best game on Sunday. [Winning their last game] will make them feel like they have less weight in their bodies, it’ll give them more confidence. At the end of the day that result supports their style and their identity and I’m sure this is going to be a tough game between two tough teams.”
