ST. PETERSBURG, FL – The Tampa Bay Rowdies today announced the club has acquired midfielder Nicky Law via trade from Indy Eleven. In return, the Rowdies have sent forward Juan Tejada to Indy Eleven. The move, pending league and federation approval, is expected to be finalized in time for Law to be available for selection this Saturday, July 23 when the Rowdies host Atlanta United 2 at Al Lang Stadium.

Law comes to Tampa Bay after a season and half as a regular contributor for Indy in midfield. He leaves the Circle City having recorded four goals and five assists in 49 appearances for Indy.

“We were lacking something in the squad in terms of support in midfield that I think Nicky will bring,” said Rowdies Head Coach Neill Collins. “He’s a number 8 but can also play number 10. He’s got fantastic quality on the ball and has proven over the last 12 months that he’s a good fit in this league. as he’s gotten to know the USL and play in it.”

Prior to arriving stateside with Indy, Law enjoyed a 15-year career that saw him make over 500 appearances and notch 76 goals and 111 assists in various leagues in England and Scotland. Law went on to play for Bradford City, Rotherham United, Motherwell FC, Rangers FC, and Exeter City before landing at Indy last year.

A graduate of Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Tejada signed his first professional contract with the Rowdies after impressing as a trialist during preseason. The Panamanian went on to bag 10 goals in his debut season and cement himself as a favorite among Rowdies supporters with his tireless work rate and infectious energy. In 2020, Tejada made his debut for Panama’s national team in a friendly versus the United States. He leaves the Rowdies having made 14 goals in 75 appearances for the club across all competitions.

“Juan’s been really unfortunate this season not to get more opportunities,” said Collins. “Certain players in his position have done very well and I’ve picked them ahead of him. I always put the club first, but at the same time try to be fair to someone like Juan, who has given everything and…
