July 18, 2022 – United Soccer League One (USL1)FC Tucson News Release

Elijah Wynder is set to return to USL Championship’s Eastern Conference leaders Louisville City FC following the completion of his loan with FC Tucson.

The 19-year-old Louisville native joined Tucson in the offseason and played in 12 USL League One matches. He made a pair of starts and had a passing average of 75.4% over 265 minutes played.

He had an assist on Tyler Moss’ goal on May 15 against Charlotte Independence. Wynder’s most impactful moment on the scoresheet was when he drew a foul in the penalty box in extra time against Chattanooga Red Wolves SC on April 23. Daniel Bedoya converted the ensuing penalty kick to give Tucson the 3-2 comeback win.

“We firmly believe that the experience he had at FC Tucson was extremely valuable for his development,” said Louisville SC head coach Danny Cruz. “I’m looking forward to having him in training and continuing to evaluate him as the season progresses.”

Wynder was Louisville’s first player to sign a professional contract out of its youth academy. He missed all of 2021 with a knee injury. Louisville, which is 13-3-3, said that he will see time this summer in both USL Championship games and USL Academy League competitions. Wynder joins his brother Josh on the Louisville roster.
