July 17, 2022 – United Soccer League Championship (USL)New Mexico United News Release

New Mexico United and Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC shared the points in an inter-conference match-up on Saturday night. Rio Grande Credit Union Field at Isotopes Park was packed full of fans – 12,069 of them – as United scored early and Pittsburgh equalized in the second half en route to a 1-1 final score that saw United move up into third place in the USL Championship Western Conference.

Jerome Kiesewetter scored his second goal of the season, and second in as many home matches. His goal – just 50 seconds into the match – was the fastest in New Mexico United regular season history. The only goal faster in the club’s history was Devon Sandoval’s goal in the first round of the 2019 playoffs against Sacramento. That strike was just 19 seconds into the match.

The one-goal lead would hold through the first half, as United led in every major statistical category except shots at the break. Pittsburgh’s breakthrough would come in the 75th minute, as substitute Dane Kelly found himself on the end of a line-breaking pass and one-timed low underneath Alex Tambakis. The league’s all-time leading scorer tallied his 106th career USL Championship goal to earn his side a road point.
