MNUFC Offense Shines in Friendly Against SC Paderborn 07

July 16, 2022 – Major League Soccer (MLS)Minnesota United FC News Release

SAINT PAUL, Minn. — Allianz Field was the venue and Reynoso & Amarilla was the main act under the lights on Saturday night. Minnesota United FC’s South American duo of Emanuel Reynoso and Luis Amarilla put on a scoring spectacle against D.C. United, helping the Loons earn the 2-0 victory over the Eastern Conference side.

Dominance describes MNUFC’s match against D.C. United. The Loons clicked on offense, recording 17 shots in total (six on target) against D.C.’s five (zero on target). Another standout statistic was crosses. Minnesota United sent in 17 crosses compared to D.C.’s nine, controlling and stretching D.C.’s third of the field throughout the full 90 minutes. Amidst all those chances, midfielder Emanuel Reynoso opened the scoring in Saturday’s match. Connecting from a forward Luis Amarilla back-footed pass, Reynoso found the back of the net for the eighth time this season, giving the Loons the 1-0 advantage in the 13th minute. MNUFC midfielder and captain Wil Trapp was substituted out of the match due to a left-leg hamstring injury in the 20th minute. The second act from the high-flying Loons continued over the final 45 minutes. Amarilla yet again connected a pass inside the box with Reynoso scoring his ninth regular-season goal, bagging his third brace in 2022 and doubling MNUFC’s lead 2-0 in the 50th minute. On the defensive end, the Loons held firm all night, stifling D.C.’s attacks. Notably, goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair recorded his fourth shutout of 2022 (first since April 23 against the Chicago Fire), solidifying the 2-0 victory.

Notably, MNUFC now has an 8-3-3 record in MLS action in 2022 when scoring first and an overall record of 59-13-10 in MLS play, respectively. With the win against D.C. United, Minnesota also extended its unbeaten streak to five straight regular-season contests, having a W-D-W-W-W run of form since the win at LA Galaxy (June 29).

This coming Wednesday, July 20, Minnesota United is excited to welcome historic Everton Football Club of the English Premier League for an international friendly match during Everton’s preseason tour in the United States. Kick for Wednesday night’s contest is set for 7:00 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on Bally Sports North.
