PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Thorns FC midfielder Sam Coffey has been called up to join the U.S. Women’s National Team as a replacement player at the Concacaf W Championship it was announced today. Coffey will join the team in Monterrey, Mexico ahead of the knockout rounds spanning from July 14 to July 18.
During the Concacaf W Championship, teams are allowed to make changes to their rosters due to injuries, if necessary, between the group stage and the semifinal round. Coffey will miss Portland’s match against NJ/NY Gotham FC on July 16.
Coffey, 23, spent time with the U.S. team for its pre-tournament training camp and games against Colombia in June, but remains uncapped at the senior level. Coffey is one of two players that have started all 11 matches for Thorns FC this season and has tallied one assist.
