July 9, 2022 – Major League Soccer (MLS) – Atlanta United FC News Release
ATLANTA -Atlanta United lost 3-0 to Austin FC on Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Juanjo Purata made his club debut as a second half substitute.
Austin struck first in the ninth minute through Felipe Martins. The visitors won possession high up the pitch before the Brazilian sent a pass out wide to Ethan Finlay, who floated a pass to the middle of the penalty area for Felipe to head into goal.
Finlay doubled Austin’s advantage in the 17th minute. Atlanta failed to clear a cross from Diego Fagúndez and Finlay finished an opportunity from close range.
Austin finished the scoring in the 57th minute. Maxi Urruti hit the crossbar and Sebastián Driussi tapped it into the open net.
George Campbell nearly pulled a goal back in the 60th minute. Alan Franco recycled a corner kick and sent in a cross from the right side. The homegrown defender leapt above Austin’s defense and headed the ball on frame, but Brad Stuver narrowly tipped it over the bar.
Atlanta (5-8-5, 20 points) continues its three-match homestand at Mercedes-Benz Stadium with a midweek meeting against Real Salt Lake on Wednesday, July 13 (7:30 p.m., ESPN+, Bally Sports South, Sports Radio 92-9 The Game, La Mejor).
