Everton midfielder ‘would be ideal’ for Juventus as clubs consider swap deal for £17m-rated star

According to reports, Everton midfielder Andre Gomes ‘would be ideal’ for Juventus as the two clubs are considering a swap deal involving Adrien Rabiot.

Gomes signed for Everton on an initial loan deal during the summer transfer window in 2018. They signed him permanently the year after for £22m.

The former Barcelona star was impacted by injuries last term as he only played 19 times across all competitions.

Rabiot meanwhile joined Juventus in 2019 from PSG. He has already played 129 times for the Italian side.

The centre-midfielder is out of contract in 2023 and he has reportedly told Juventus that he wants to leave. It is claimed that he ‘would welcome’ a move to the Premier League and that he is valued at £17m.

Juve Dipendenza are reporting that Everton are now in the picture to sign Rabiot.

It is claimed that Rabiot’s ‘farewell is needed’ and that Gomes ‘would be ideal’ as part of a swap deal.

They add that the Juventus player would be open to the move to Goodison Park as the English club could offer him a ‘worthy contract’.

Elsewhere, Everton have been encouraged to keep Anthony Gordon this summer amid reported interest from Newcastle United.

Everton sold Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this window for £60m. Spurs have also shown an interest in Gordon.

This has now cooled but Newcastle United are now in the race to sign the winger. Earlier this week, it was reported that the Magpies would pay £35m for him and that the player is ‘tempted’ by the move.

Simon Jordan was Crystal Palace’s chairman between 2000 and 2010. The 54-year-old is now a regular presenter on talkSPORT. He has advised the Toffees to keep Gordon:

“Gordon is a product of Everton’s academy,” Jordan told talkSPORT.

“He is in the mould of wanting to play for Everton.

“He’s not some player (who is) coming to Everton, doing them a favour, picking up a big paycheck and, when it suits him better, to be leaving. Everton need their best players in the academy, to embody what the fans want to see. That is good young talent coming through.

“The boardroom wants to see a team that isn’t producing outcomes that give (Farhad) Moshiri the look of being a court jester. What they want is a team that’s winning. So Moshiri can sit back and not listen to people tell him how crap he is at running his football club.”
