Liverpool ‘agree to sell’ academy product for £17m

Liverpool defender Williams

According to reports, Liverpool have ‘agreed to sell’ Neco Williams to their Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest for a fee of around £17m.

The Welshman has spent his whole career at Liverpool. He made his senior debut for them towards the end of 2019.

Williams has played 33 times for Liverpool across all competitions over the past three seasons.

With him not featuring much in the first team, he was given permission to join Fulham on loan last term.

The 21-year-old played 15 times for them towards the end of the 2021/22 campaign as they won the Championship title.

Williams has been heavily linked with a permanent move away from Liverpool this summer. The Athletic are reporting that Nottm Forest have now ‘agreed a fee’ to sign him for £17m.

Liverpool are ‘happy to sell’ him after they brought in Calvin Ramsay earlier this window.

The Wales international will come in to play on the right in Forest’s 3-5-2 system. They are also ‘aiming to sign’ Bayern Munich’s Omar Richards to operate on the left.

The report adds that Forest are ‘keen to recruit’ Huddersfield Town left-back Harry Toffolo, who would cost around £2.5m.

Elsewhere, Everton have reportedly sparked late interest in Wolves’ Morgan Gibbs-White, with Nottingham Forest also keen.

Gibbs-White had a very productive spell on loan with Sheffield United last season.

He was voted as the club’s Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year after scoring 12 goals and providing ten assists.

The Blades were beaten by Nottingham Forest in the play-off semi-finals and will go again next year as they aim to return to the Premier League.

Interest in Gibbs-White is high with Forest boss Steve Cooper looking to bring him to the City Ground.

According to The Athletic, Everton have joined the Reds in the race to sign the England under-21 midfielder.

The Toffees have registered a ‘late interest’ and will rival Forest in pursuit of the Wolves man.

The Molineux club are believed to value the 22-year-old at £30million. He is out of contract in two years’ time.

Current Everton director of football and former Wolves academy manager and then technical director, Kevin Thelwell, has a ‘good relationship’ with the player, the report adds.
