Huge Man Utd transfer could hinge on Man City star as Ten Hag ‘speaks daily’ to target

Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag speaks to reporters in a press conference

Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag is in daily contact with Frenkie de Jong as Barcelona and the Red Devils continue to negotiate, according to reports.

The Red Devils secured the signing of Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord for £12.9m on Tuesday as Ten Hag finally brought in his first summer signing.

It has been clear for a while that United’s main transfer target this summer is De Jong with the Premier League club submitting a number of offers for the Netherlands international.

There were rumours that De Jong wasn’t keen on joining Man Utd this summer but that speculation has since been put to bed.

However, Barcelona president recently claimed that he has “no intention of selling” De Jong this summer and will “do everything” to keep him at the Camp Nou.

“There are clubs that want him, not just United. We have no intention of selling him, he wants to stay,” Laporta said.

“Frenkie is considered as one of the best midfielders in the world by all the experts. We are happy to have him.

“I’m going to do everything I can in my power so that Frenkie stays here, but there’s also a salary issue and that would have to be adjusted.”

But the two clubs are continuing to negotiate a suitable fee with Spanish journalist Gerard Moreno now claiming that Man Utd last submitted a bid of €65m plus another €22m in variables, taking the posssible fee up to Barcelona’s asking price of €87m.

Despite meeting their valuation, Barcelona are still unhappy with the structure of the transfer with the Catalan giants willing to ‘accept’ an offer of €75m plus €12m in add-ons.

Ten Hag is understood to ‘speaks daily’ with De Jong but the transfer could hinge on Barcelona bringing in Man City midfielder Bernardo Silva.

Moreno adds that Xavi ‘conditions the departure’ of De Jong ‘to the arrival’ of Man City’s Silva, with a report on Sunday claiming they had agreed a fee with the English champions.
