FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution II (7-3-3; 25 pts.) will head north of the border to take on Toronto FC II (5-6-1; 16 pts.) on Sunday night at York Lions Stadium. The match kicks off at 7:00 p.m. ET and streams on MLSNEXTPro.com.
New England fell at Chicago Fire FC II over the weekend, 4-3. Despite falling into a two-goal deficit in the early stages of the match, Revolution II battled back with goals from Ryan Lima and Pierre Cayet in the 33rd and 36th minutes, respectively. Chicago II reclaimed the lead in the second half, before Michel closed the scoring in the final seconds of the contest. The loss was only New England’s third defeat through 13 matches in the 2022 campaign.
“Offensively, it’s hard to score three goals in one game, so we were very happy, and we know that it was because of the hard work we have been putting in in between games to be able to do that, but unfortunately, we conceded four goals so there’s things that we need to adjust,” midfielder Michel stated. “And we are well aware that a 1-0 win works fine, and we’ll keep working, keep pushing to get wins no matter the score.”
New England collected a 1-0 shutout win over Toronto in the first meeting between the two sides on May 14. Marcos Dias tallied his first goal with Revolution II in the match and is now currently tied with Damian Rivera and Lima for the team lead with three tallies. Jacob Jackson made two saves in the victory and notched his third career clean sheet. The victory marked Revolution II’s 20th win in team history. With 25 points on the season so far, New England remains on top of the Northeast Division.
“I think the biggest thing is really the players kind of starting to understand within the framework of how we want to perform and move, and do things as a team, there’s flexibility,” Head Coach Clint Peay said of the lessons to be learned from last week. “It’s not a rigid structure, and that they’ve got that ability to make changes, to communicate, so I think ultimately we’re looking for a little bit better of a leadership role from some guys on the field in terms of how we communicate what we’re trying to get across to the players in certain moments of the game because we can create a game plan, but the other team is always going to change throughout the game, so how do the players adapt while the game is going on given the framework of how we want to play the…
