July 2, 2022 – Canadian Premier League (CPL)Atletico Ottawa News Release

Back in their winning ways, Atlético Ottawa face a quick turnaround as they travel straight from the East Coast to Hamilton to take on Forge FC (KO 4 PM ET, live on OneSoccer). A spirited display in Halifax saw Carlos González’s team become just the second side to pick up three points at the Wanderers Grounds. Forge FC, however, pose a different kind of threat as the draw earlier in the season was the first point Ottawa had managed to collect against the three-time Canadian Premier League finalists.

This weekend’s clash with Forge FC is the last in a three-fixture run of away games as Atleti head back to TD Place on Sunday 9th July to face league leaders Cavalry FC.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Sunday’s kick-off:

Atlético Ottawa’s victory on the East Coast saw them climb into second place, three points behind the league leaders.

Forge FC currently sit in fourth place, four points behind Atleti although they have played two games less.

Midfielder Ollie Bassett was named ‘Performance of the Match’ in Halifax as he opened the score with a wicked free-kick that took goalkeeper Christian Oxner by surprise.

Bassett, who has been named in the Team of the Week five times as well as being awarded Player of the Month for May had never earned a ‘Performance of the Match’.

Atleti’s 1-1 draw at Tim Hortons Field earlier in the season was earned courtesy of Bassett’s opening goal.

Forge FC are one of the most in-form teams in the CPL currently, having won four of their last five games.

The Hamilton-based team will be looking to bounce back though having suffered a surprising defeat at the hands of Valour FC earlier in the week.

Head Coach Carlos González’s tactical style has been described as ‘defensively resolute and patient’ that is well suited to ‘playing away from home’.

In fact, Ottawa have the best points-per-game away from home in the CPL.

Record head-to-head (all time): 0W-1D-6L; 1 goals scored, 15 goals conceded
