Available Inter Milan defender ‘waiting for a call’ as Man Utd take an interest

Man Utd target Stefan de Vrij and Frenkie de Jong defend a corner

Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij is the subject of transfer interest from Premier League side Man Utd, according to reports in Italy.

The Netherlands international moved to the San Siro on a free transfer from Inter’s fellow Serie A club Lazio in the summer of 2018 and has gone on to make 165 appearances.

He made 30 appearances in the league last season in a back three under Simone Inzaghi but there are rumours that the Scudetto runners-up would now be ready to see him leave.

The first signings of Man Utd’s last seven managers as Ten Hag prepares to welcome Malacia…

The Red Devils are still yet to officially confirm a new signing this summer but they seem to have some in the pipeline, with Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia set to sign soon.

Frenkie de Jong and Christian Eriksen have been been linked and there have been positive reports on both of those potential incomings in the last 24 hours.

And now another Dutch international has been linked with a move to Old Trafford with former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag now steering the ship at Man Utd.

Italian newspaper Gazzetta Dello Sport (via Sport Witness) claims that De Vrij could be on his way out this summer with the former Feyenoord man only having a year left on his contract.

It is understood that Man Utd have ‘turned on their radar’ to the possibility of signing De Vrij this window with the centre-back ‘waiting for a call’ from an interested party or Inter over his future.

De Vrij won’t force a move away from Inter this summer or ‘go to the clash’ but he is understood to be open to moving this summer.

Meanwhile, former Premier League manager Alex McLeish thinks Ten Hag “has to hit the ground running” at Man Utd this season with the club needing to support him with new signings.

“It’s a massive job at Man United,” McLeish told Football Insider. “We are all envious of managers who get the Manchester United job, we all want to be there.

“But with that role comes massive pressure, massive pressure to get it right and Man United have to get this signing right.

“He has to hit the ground running and Man United have to get back among the top four. At the moment it looks like the construction isn’t quite there for the club as far as I can see.”
