Tyrell Malacia’s protracted move to Manchester United has hit significant complications amid a move from the player to change agents.

Malacia is on course to become new United head coach Erik ten Hag’s first signing after the Old Trafford club agreed a £13million fee for the left-back.

But the switch is being delayed due to a wish from Malacia to change agents midway through the transfer.

The Holland international has been looked after HCM Sports Management, who also look after De Jong.

The company also facilitated Donny van de Beek’s switch from Ajax to United in 2020.

However, Malacia has made clear he doesn’t not want HCM to do this deal creating significant hurdles for United with regards to completing a deal.

And there is some concern that the external problems could cause issues with regards to United’s move for De Jong.

Sportsmail revealed earlier this week that United were close to agreeing a deal with Barcelona for the Holland midfielder, in a deal that could be worth up to £70million.

But the situation between Malacia and HCM could conceivably add complications for the De Jong deal.

Malacia looked set to strengthen United at left-back, with Luke Shaw and Alex Telles the club’s other main options in that position.

Feyenoord director Frank Arnesen had even previously revealed that they had agreed a deal with United for Malacia, but it may be as smooth as first anticipated now.
