Tottenham will turn their immediate focus to improving Antonio Conte’s attacking options after their attempts to sign defenders Alessandro Bastoni and Josko Gvardiol proved difficult.

Conte was keen to sign a young, strong and quick centre-halve to compete with Ben Davies on the left of his back-three.

Italy defender Bastoni has made it clear he wants to stay at Inter Milan, however, and Spurs accept any move for Gvardiol is unlikely after the Croatia international agreed a new deal with Leipzig.

There is no interest in Gleison Bremer of Torino. Spurs boss Conte and his managing director of football Fabio Paratici will instead prioritise a new forward, with Everton’s Richarlison shaping up as the prime target.

They view Richarlison as a player to operate wide in the forward line and capable of deputising for Harry Kane in a central position when required.

Everton are prepared to listen to offers for the Brazil striker, who has two years left on his contract at Goodison Park, although they will try to resist interest from several clubs including Tottenham in England Under-21 international winger Anthony Gordon.
