EL PASO, Texas – El Paso Locomotive (8-6-4, 28 points, West-5) claimed a full three points over New York Red Bulls II following a 5-0 victory on Saturday night. Midfielder Eric Calvillo scored two goals while Midfielders Christiano Francois and Nick Hinds and Forward Aaron Gomez each earned a goal.

“The first half was very impressive, and the second half was a professional performance,” commented Locomotive Head Coach and Technical Director John Hutchinson. “I’m happy them to get some goals and happy to play some good football. We got a clean sheet as well which is great for Evan [Newton] and the defenders and the attackers who were pressing all night. Overall, I’m happy with the performance.”

Locomotive tore through the young New York Red Bulls II side throughout their first meeting. As rain poured on the pitch in the opening 45 minutes, so too did Locomotive goals. Francois opened the goal scoring early in the 4th minute, sneaking home a shot following a corner kick. The goals kept coming for El Paso with Calvillo finding his first of the night moments later running to meet Forward Aaron Gomez in the box. Calvillo took one touch bury his shot into the back of the net. Hinds followed suit just shy of the 20th minute with redirecting to the near post a pass back from Midfielder Sebastian Velasquez. Just before the first half ended, Calvillo would earn his brace, putting home a goal on an open net center of the box.

The game continued to match rain, slowing down as the weather calmed. El Paso Locomotive FC continued to apply pressure on NYRBII, but the youthful defense packed in to put a stop to the fast-paced Locos. Francois took early chances that went wide of the post while a header from Forward Lucho Solignac hit into the wrong side of the netting. In the end, Gomez would add to his two assists with a goal in the 74th minute, converting an open goal after pairing with Solignac. On the other end, Goalkeeper Evan Newton continued to show why he holds league records, making four saves throughout the night. Paired with defensive heroics from Defender Yuma, Newton earned his sixth clean sheet of the season.
