Man City ‘agree terms’ with Premier League player

Man City target Marc Cucurella during a match

Man City have reportedly agreed personal terms with Brighton’s Marc Cucurella and are now ‘in advanced talks to finalise a fee’.

Cucurella was named Albion’s Players’ Player of the Season after a terrific debut campaign in England.

Gabriel Jesus might be brilliant for Arsenal – but he’s a £45m gamble for Mikel Arteta

The Seagulls paid £16m to sign him from La Liga outfit Getafe. He made 34 appearances in the Premier League as they finished a club-record ninth in the top flight.

As a result of his fine season, Cucurella has been heavily linked with a move to Premier League champions Man City.

It was reported earlier this month that City were ‘poised’ to make an opening offer for the Spaniard.

According to Football Insider, they are yet to agree a fee with Brighton, however, they have now ‘agreed personal terms’ with the left-back.

The 23-year-old has told the Seagulls that he wants to ‘quit’ the club after ‘accepting City’s contract offer’.

Now that negotiations have reached an ‘advanced stage’, the Citizens are ‘confident’ they will be able to strike an agreement over a transfer fee.

Man City have already completed the signings of Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland. They are also targeting Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips as a long-term replacement for Fernandinho.

Speaking last month, Cucurella admitted that there are certain clubs “you can’t say no to” when quizzed on City’s interest.

“The goal [at Brighton] was to develop so the big clubs can take notice,” he said.

“But if the opportunity arises, you have to take advantage of it. There are teams that you can’t say no to. No, sincerely no [Pep Guardiola has not called]. Of course, there are rumours.

“If people are talking like this about you, it’s a good thing. We’re calm; the most important thing right now is to rest.”
