Tottenham ‘increasingly confident’ of player exit, club want £26m-rated star to be ‘marquee signing’

Tottenham to sell Bergwijn

According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur and Ajax are ‘increasingly confident a deal could be in place’ for Steven Bergwijn ‘by the end of this week’.

After shining for PSV in the Eredivisie, Tottenham signed him at the start of 2020 for a fee in the region of £26m.

Bergwijn has played 83 times for Spurs over the past couple of seasons, though most of his appearances have been off the bench.

Ten La Liga stars that should be signed by a Premier League club this summer

The Dutchman only started four times in the Premier League last term. It was claimed earlier this month that ‘many clubs are interested’ in signing Bergwijn.

Ajax looked to bring him in January and now Football Insider are reporting that they are in ‘advanced talks’ to sign the Tottenham player.

Spurs are ‘willing’ to sell Bergwijn but they will not ‘drop their £26m asking price’. The Dutch outfit are said to want to make the player ‘their marquee signing’ this summer.

The report adds that ‘a breakthrough in talks is believed to be close and all parties are increasingly confident a deal could be in place by the end of this week’.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are reportedly ready to take on Everton in the race to sign Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks this summer.

Winks came through the youth ranks at Spurs and made his breakthrough into the first team in the 2016/17 season after making a handful of cup appearances in previous campaigns.

The England international made 30 appearances in all competitions last term but only half of those were in the starting XI as Antonio Conte didn’t fancy the midfielder towards the end of the season.

You have to go back to February 26 for Winks’ last Premier League start as he played the full 90 minutes in a 4-0 victory over Leeds United at Elland Road.

There was speculation on Sunday that Everton had made Winks their ‘top priority’ this summer as they look to strengthen Frank Lampard’s midfield options.

And now The Sun claim today that Crystal Palace ‘could rival’ Everton for Winks as the 26-year-old ‘will be allowed to leave this summer’.

Southampton and Sevilla are also ‘monitoring’ Winks’ situation at Tottenham and the north London club ‘would listen to offers of £20m’.
