Memphis, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC announced on Monday that Brazilian coach Flavio Grava has joined the technical staff as Director of Sports Science.

Grava began his career at Brazilian club Santos before moving to Corinthians Paulista, where he served as the head of the sports science department, handling rehabilitation, physical conditioning and methodological training.

“Flavio comes to us with an incredible background in the game. His experience working with top clubs like Santos and Corinthians will be a huge benefit to our club and how we shape this department,” Assistant Sporting Director Caleb Patterson-Sewell said. “We firmly believe Flavio will help guide us to having the best Sports Science department within the league over the next few years.”

Grava brings valuable experience to the club, having won the Copa Libertadores, World Club Championships, Brazilian Serie A, Paulista Championship and Recopa Sud Americana throughout his career.

“I am excited to join a club that is growing in many different ways. I am looking forward to implementing the Sports Science methodology and procedures here at 901 FC with the main goal of having the players prepared to compete and win titles,” Grava said. “I spoke at length with Caleb before coming to Memphis and the ownership of Peter Freund, Craig Unger and Tim Howard are making a great investment in this part of the club. I am excited to make our Sports Science department a reference to the league.”
