Arsenal to ‘do everything to convince’ £50m Premier League player to join them over Tottenham

Arsenal top target Jesus

According to reports, Arsenal are ‘ready to do everything to convince’ Man City striker Gabriel Jesus to sign for them instead of Tottenham Hotspur.

The forward made the move to Manchester City in 2017 for an initial fee of around £50m.

The 25-year-old has grabbed 95 goals and 46 assists in 236 outings for Pep Guardiola’s side across all competitions.

Jesus was involved in 17 goals in 28 league games last term as he helped Man City retain the Premier League title.

The Brazil international is set to leave City this summer following their decision to sign Erling Haaland.  It is being reported that Arsenal are set to submit a second bid for Jesus. He is valued at around £50m.

Gianluca Di Marzio is now reporting that the Gunners are ‘ready to do everything to convince’ Jesus to sign for them. It is said that negotiations ‘could soon enter a crucial phase’.

Tottenham are also ‘trying’ to buy Jesus and they are ‘moving under the radar’. Di Marzio adds that this deal is ‘difficult’ given Premier League competition.

Meanwhile, USA goalkeeper Matt Turner has pledged to provide competition for Aaron Ramsdale’s position when he joins Arsenal.

Turner, 27, is close to completing his transfer to the Gunners after a deal was agreed back in February, having spent the last few months with MLS side New England Revolution.

He has made 18 appearances for the USA national team and, despite being signed to play second fiddle to Ramsdale, Arsenal’s first choice ‘keeper, Turner has vowed to do all he can to claim a starting role.

“I’d agree with it [being second-choice] for now,” he told Sky Sports. “I’m coming in to push him and become the best goalkeeper I can become, while also making him the best goalkeeper he can become. That’s really my goal for it all.”

He continued: “We [him and Mikel Arteta] have talked a little bit. His main message for me was just to focus on what I need to focus on right now, getting through these next few months, staying healthy, staying fit and getting ready for pre-season and compete.

“The project they have going on there, [I want to be] an important part of the locker room, adding some experience – not a ton of Premier League experience – but national team experience, league experience and playing games in pressured environments. I’ll be an older head in the locker room, being 28.”
