According to reports, Manchester United target Christian Eriksen ‘would like to stay in London’, with Brentford and Tottenham also interested.

The Danish playmaker is a free agent after his Brentford contract expired. He joined the Bees on a six-month deal in January after making his comeback from suffering a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.

Manchester United offered the 30-year-old a contract this week and were handed a boost after he revealed that he is not prioritising signing for a team in the Champions League.

“I have different offers and options, which we are considering, and then we make a decision,” Eriksen told Viaplay.

“I would love to play Champions League football again. I know how much fun it is, but it isn’t essential for me.”

However, the Red Devils’ pursuit has hit a speedbump, with The Athletic revealing that Eriksen ‘would like to stay in London’, meaning Brentford and Spurs lead the race.

The Dane spent six-and-a-half years in north London before signing for Inter Milan – who were managed by current Spurs head coach Antonio Conte – in 2020.

Conte is a big fan of Eriksen and Spurs are ‘confident’ they can convince the midfielder to re-join this summer, especially with Champions League football back at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, it is understood that Eriksen had a ‘good talk’ with Brentford head coach Thomas Frank when they went out for dinner on Tuesday.

The Bees had been hopeful they would have a decision by now but are understanding that the experienced midfielder is taking his time.

Meanwhile, Teddy Sheringham thinks United need to buy “five or six top players” in the summer transfer window if they want to get “back to where they should be”.

Sheringham told Lord Ping: “United need reinforcements across the pitch. In particular centre midfield, centre forward and on the wings.
