Transfer gossip: Man Utd lead Arsenal in chase for Portugal midfielder, Prem trio eye Bale

Vitinha celebrates scoring for Porto.

Man Utd are the ‘number one pretender’ for a player Arsenal also want, while three clubs fancy bringing Gareth Bale back to the Premier League…

UNITED ON POLE FOR PORTO STAR
Vitinha failed to impress Wolves but his form for Porto last season seems to have pitted Manchester United and Arsenal against each other.

The Portugal midfielder struggled to catch the eye in 23 fleeting appearances during a loan at Molineux in 2020-21 but only two players played more games for Porto when he returned last season.

According to A Bola, United have been checking on Vitinha since March and the Red Devils are the 22-year-old’s ‘number 1 pretender’. Which is apt description of United in general these days.

The Sun says Tottenham are monitoring their former star’s situation, despite recent claims they weren’t interested, while Villa and the Magpies are also mentioned as potential suitors, as well as Cardiff.

Fortunately, the Blues appear to be feeling generous. Despite Chelsea’s demands putting Inter off a deal earlier in the week, The Telegraph says talks between the two clubs have progressed well, with Sky Sports reporting they are now only £4.3million apart in their valuations.

Chelsea have already reduced their demands for a loan deal to £8.6million, but Inter feel encouraged enough to ask for another 50 per cent discount. The general feeling is that the clubs will find some common ground, since Chelsea have little…
