Liverpool will ‘come to a compromise’ with ‘marquee player’ Salah over new contract

Kevin Campbell expects Liverpool to “come to a compromise” with Mohamed Salah over a new contract.

The forward enjoyed one of his best seasons at Liverpool to date during the 2021/22 campaign. He grabbed 31 goals and 16 assists in 51 outings across all competitions.

Salah’s performances last term led to him winning the PFA Player’s Player of the Year award for a second time.

His future at Anfield is in doubt as his current deal is due to expire in 2023. Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane are also out of contract next year. The latter is set to sign for Bayern Munich.

Salah has confirmed that he will still be at Liverpool next season, but the picture for him long-term is unclear.

Ex-Premier League striker Campbell is optimistic that Salah will extend his stay at Liverpool:

“I don’t think it will be a matter of bowing to his demands,” Campbell told Football Insider.

“Both parties have to come to a compromise. They need to conclude on a deal that works for everyone.

“Salah is a big-time player, a marquee player for Liverpool. He was brilliant last season.

“I don’t see it being a problem. I truly believe they will come to an agreement.

“Here is the funny thing, if they don’t come to an agreement and his contract expires, it doesn’t mean he will leave the club.

“At that point, everyone is in the same boat. There would be a different negotiation to be had at that stage. I wouldn’t rule that one out.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool will reportedly not be buying a new midfielder this summer after agreeing a deal to sign Aberdeen full-back Calvin Ramsay.

Jurgen Klopp has been backed again this summer but the Daily Mail claims that Liverpool have ‘no plans to buy new midfielder’ despite rumours still circulating of interest in a number of players.

The Reds have made a ‘breakthrough in their pursuit’ of Aberdeen full-back Ramsey with the Scotland under-21 international ‘on course to be their third – and final – signing of the summer’.

Liverpool, who have been trying to land Ramsey for weeks, ‘have brokered a deal that will see them pay an initial £4million with a further £2.5m in bonuses’ to beat off competition from other clubs.

Ramsey ‘is expected to be given permission to travel to Merseyside in the next 24 hours to begin a medical’ with Aberdeen ‘determined to get a club record fee’ for the Scot.
