Arsenal’s pursuit of ‘top priority’ midfielder boosted by Tottenham’s signing of Bissouma

Yves Bissouma in action

Tottenham’s signing of Yves Bissouma will “allay fears” they will hijack a move for Arsenal target Youri Tielemans, according to reports.

Various reports on Tuesday confirmed that Spurs have had a £25m bid accepted by Brighton for the Malian midfielder.

Richarlison appeal to Spurs is obvious but discarding Moura would be a waste

Bissouma is out of contract at the end of next season and will come into Antonio Conte’s midfield to partner January acquisition Rodrigo Bentancur.

The Brighton man has also been linked with Aston Villa, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United.

As a result of Bissouma’s move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Arsenal now have no fears that their deal to sign Tielemans from Leicester will be hijacked by Spurs.

This is according to Ben Jacobs, who reiterated that the Gunners are still “confident” they will land the Belgian playmaker and are “on course” to complete the signing by the end of the month.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has completed extensive background checks on Tielemans, who is ‘one of the Spaniard’s top priorities’.

Speaking last week, Tielemans confirmed that leaving Leicester this summer is “not out of the question”.

He said: “I feel very good at Leicester, I was welcomed with open arms from day one. I give everything for the club until the last day.

“But of course you have to listen to other opportunities, you have to look at your career, and sometimes you have to make choices. Maybe one will come my way.”

Elsewhere, Dusan Vlahovic has revealed that he “never talked” to Arsenal during the winter transfer window before joining Juventus from Fiorentina.

The Gunners targeted the Serbian striker earlier this year but he ultimately signed for Juventus for an initial fee of £59m.

“Maybe my agent knows [about Arsenal’s offer] but I never talked to anyone about it,” Vlahovic told The Telegraph.

“I just had one club in my mind because Juventus is Juventus. There is nothing else to say. And now I feel honoured to be given this jersey. It’s incredible every time I put it on.”
