Arsenal ‘greatly annoyed’ by Serie A club’s ‘€7m proposal’ for player

According to reports, the hierarchy at Arsenal are ‘greatly annoyed’ by Fiorentina’s latest offer for their midfielder Lucas Torreira.

The Uraguay international made the move to Arsenal shortly after the end of the 2018 World Cup.

Torreira was an important figure during his debut season as he played 50 times for the Gunners across all competitions.

The midfielder fell down the pecking order following the appointment of Mikel Arteta.

The 26-year-old played 26 times while on loan in La Liga with Atletico Madrid during the 2020/21 season.

Torreira then joined Fiorentina on loan. He impressed as he featured 31 times for them in Serie A.

He insisted last month that it is his “intention” to join Fiorentina permanently. His Arsenal contract is due to expire in 2023.

Fiorentina.it are reporting that the Italian side’s new offer for Torreira has ‘greatly annoyed’ Arsenal.

Last year it was agreed that Fiorentina could buy Torreira for €15m at the end of his loan spell.

But they have now come up with a €7m proposal. It is understood that Arsenal have ‘decided not to respond’ to this offer.

It is noted that there is ‘tense relations between the two clubs’ following Dusan Vlahovic’s failed January move to Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have reportedly ‘opened contact’ with the representatives of West Ham star Jarrod Bowen over a summer move.

Bowen – who’s valued at £31.5m by Transfermarkt – moved to the Hammers in January 2020 from Hull City for £19m and has been hugely impressive in the Premier League.

His form this season – which saw him notch 18 goals and 13 assists in all competitions for David Moyes’ side – was enough to see him called up by Gareth Southgate to represent England in the Nations League this month.

And his displays have apparently also caught the eye of Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.

So say the folks over at The Beautiful Game Podcast, who claim Bowen is on their transfer shortlist this summer, and that they’ve already been in touch with Bowen’s people.

They tweeted: ‘Arsenal have opened contact with the representatives of Jarrod Bowen over a possible transfer. He’s amongst their list of potential transfer targets, which includes Leeds United’s Raphinha.’

Arteta is looking to bolster his forward options this summer, with rumours suggesting the club are willing to cut their losses over £72m Nicolas Pepe.
