Manchester United fans have blasted the club on social media after news Liverpool have opened talks to sign United target Darwin Nunez.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are ready to smash their transfer record to sign the £85million-rated Benfica striker despite interest from the Red Devils and Atletico Madrid.

New United manager Erik ten Hag is keen to flex the club’s muscles in the transfer market, with the Dutchman wanting to overhaul his squad.

But a move for star Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong looks to have broken down, and fans quickly took to social media to criticise the club’s transfer policy as a ‘joke’, ‘pathetic’, and ‘too slow’.

One said: ‘United are so useless, can’t get any of their targets… One prefers to stay at Barca and the second is going to Liverpool. Yet another pathetic transfer window before another pathetic season.’

A second added: ‘United dragging their feet once literally looks like we are going to miss out on all our top targets and people thought there was going to be change. Club’s a joke and nothing will change until the glazers are gone!’
