Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden has joined Norwich City on a season-long loan.

Hayden was limited to 14 appearances this season after suffering a long-term injury in December. He was not included in Eddie Howe’s 25-man Premier League squad for the latter part of the campaign.

James Milner is priceless for sensible Liverpool and may even be Klopp successor

The 27-year-old will have the opportunity to play regularly next season after completing a loan move to Norwich.

The Canaries have the obligation to make the deal permanent should Hayden fulfil specific performance-related requirements throughout 2022/23.

Speaking to Norwich’s official website, Hayden said: “I am absolutely delighted. This is a fantastic club. Everything is well run, it has got a good infrastructure and the stadium and the fan base is great.

“I am here to try to help the team get back to the Premier League. The facilities at the training ground are great and changed significantly from when I have visited before. I’ve also looked at our squad and I want to add to that and help get us promoted straight away.

“The head coach was a big factor for me. He called me straight away and saw that I was out of the picture at Newcastle. I had spoken to him a few times before and he always struck me as somebody who was trying to do the right things and doing things very well at football clubs.”

In over six years at St James’ Park, Hayden played 171 times for the Magpies, scoring seven goals.

Elsewhere, Manchester United and Newcastle are currently the clubs ‘closest to signing’ Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, according to Sebas Giovanelli.

The Uruguayan journalist wrote on Twitter: “@ManUtd and @NUFC bid for Darwin Nunez and are the teams that at this time are closest to signing the attacker.”

Nunez was in tremendous form in 21/22, scoring 34 goals across all competitions for the Portuguese outfit.
