Atlético Ottawa pile on after Zach Verhoven’s goal against Pacific FC

Returning home following a successful three-match road trip, Atlético Ottawa was hosting reigning CPL champions Pacific FC once more at TD Place on Sunday afternoon. The boisterous crowd was matched only by the action on the field, as the home side offered a thrilling performance filled with oohs and aahs, capped off by a 2-1 win for the good guys.
KEY MOMENTS
Atlético Ottawa’s young talent was on display on the day, showcasing the depth and mettle of the squad assembled by Head Coach Carlos González.
21-year-old Zakaria Bahous earned another start, creating his chances throughout his 69 minutes of action, including three shots.
Vladimir Moragrega also got the nod in the starting XI alongside Malcolm Shaw. The two forwards were heavily involved in Shaw’s opening goal of the match (62′).
Zach Verhoven, who came on as a substitute in the 63rd minute, played hero for a second match in a row, putting in a crafty run on the left side and putting the ball past the keeper to secure his side’s late winner (86′). Verhoven, who played his first two seasons as a pro with Pacific FC, commented he felt great pride and joy showing off against his former side.
With the win in Week 9, Atlético Ottawa jump to the second position in CPL standing, a point only behind league-leading Pacific FC (who also have a game in hand), and remain undefeated in their last four matches.
Ottawa now has the luxury of having 8 days of training at home before their next matchup, which comes on Tuesday, June 14th when York United comes to town.
