Man Utd handed further De Jong blow as Barcelona man has three ‘top clubs’ he prefers

Frenkie de Jong would rather join PSG, Man City or Bayern Munich over Man Utd if Barcelona force him to leave, according to reports.

Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag has identified De Jong as a top target this summer as the club’s new manager eyes a reunion with his former Ajax player.

Unfortunately for him, the Dutch midfielder does not seem keen on leaving Barcelona with his current employers looking to sell him in order to raise some much-needed funds.

Speaking about his future earlier this week, De Jong said: “I have enough confidence in myself [to be a success at Barcelona]. I am not afraid. I recently spoke extensively with the trainer [Xavi]. That was a very good conversation.

“I will not go into that [the links to United]. Not even about other names or clubs. I used to be naive and open-minded about it. I don’t do that anymore.

“I understand that that link is made. That sum is not that difficult, it is logical. I have enjoyed working with Ten Hag at Ajax – and I can’t look into the future, of course. But I prefer to stay at Barcelona.

“That has always been my dream club and it still is. As long as I don’t hear from the club management, I assume nothing is going on.”

Man Utd have been hit with a further blow after Spanish outlet Cadena Sar (via the Express) reporting that De Jong would snub a reunion with Ten Hag if he is forced to leave Barcelona.

He sees himself at a ‘top club’, such as Man City, PSG or Bayern.

The Premier League club’s lack of Champions League football appears to be a huge stumbling block with numerous targets put off after their sixth-place finish this season.
