Tucson Heating up Ahead of Madison Clash

FC Tucson Rally Twice to Cut Down Chattanooga

June 3, 2022 – United Soccer League One (USL1) – FC Tucson News Release

FC Tucson heads back out on the road riding the momentum from last week’s nail-biting 1-0 win over South Georgia Tormenta FC.

Last week’s win saw a stellar game-winning goal from Tyler Allen and a solid defensive effort from the backline led by goalkeeper Carlos Merancio. The team continues its road trip when it takes on Forward Madison FC at Breese Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

Fans in Tucson can head to Brother John’s Beer, Bourbon & BBQ to watch the match, kickoff is set for 5 p.m. PT.

“It’s going to be a tough battle, but we have that kind of resilience in us,” said FC Tucson Head Coach Jon Pearlman. “We want to be strong in both the defensive third like we were last week and create more chances and shoot more in the final third.”

This is the second time the two sides will meet this season with the match ending in a 1-1 draw at Kino North Stadium on April 16. Madison midfielder Christian Enriquez scored the opening goal in the 54th minute with a shot from outside the box. Less than ten minutes later, Madison went down a man in the 63rd minute.

FC Tucson capitalized on the advantage in the 81st minute when Jacob Crull headed in a cross from Louis Perez to secure a point.

Madison sits 11th in the league with seven points (1-3-4). The club’s only win was on the road against Richmond Kickers on May 7. Since then, the club has lost twice on the road to Greenville Triumph and at home to league-leaders Charlotte Independence. In its last match, the team tied Central Valley Fuego after giving up a goal in extra time.

Tucson is ninth in the league tied with Madison on seven points (2-4-1). The team secured two road wins in its last five matches. It came back from behind against Chattanooga Red Wolves for a 3-2 win on April 23, and had a phenomenal defensive outing to win against Tormenta last week.
