Bayern Munich ‘monitoring’ Chelsea striker Lukaku as they line up Lewandowski ‘alternative’

According to reports, Bayern Munich are ‘looking at’ Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku amid rumours that Robert Lewandowski will join Barcelona.

Lewandowski has been heavily linked with a move to the Nou Camp in recent weeks and during a press conference whilst on international duty with Poland he expressed his desire to leave Bayern.

“My story at Bayern is over,” he said. “After everything that has happened in recent months, I cannot imagine further good cooperation.

“Bayern is a serious club and I hope they will not keep me just because they can. A transfer is the best solution for all parties. I hope they don’t stop me.”

Lukaku has also been linked with a summer transfer after a poor first campaign back at Chelsea.

He re-joined the Blues from Inter Milan last year and after a stuttery start to his second spell at the club, he said he was “not happy” and sparked talk over a return to the Italian side.

Those rumours have not gone away and with his former boss Antonio Conte in charge of Tottenham, a switch to north London has also been mentioned.

However, a report on Thursday stated that Lukaku ‘rejected’ the chance to reunite with Conte – who led Inter to the Serie A title last season, assisted by the Belgian’s 24 goals and 10 assists.

With his future at Stamford Bridge uncertain, Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo have claimed that Bundesliga champions Bayern are ‘looking at’ the experienced striker.

Barcelona are said to be ‘prioritising’ a move for Lewandowski, and with the player clearly eager to join, the Germans need to find a suitable replacement.
