Klopp Says It'll Be a 'Great Season' for Liverpool Irrespective of Champions League Result

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says win or lose Saturday’s UEFA Champions League final, the club has had a “great season”.

The Reds lifted both the FA Cup and League Cup, while they finished runners-up to Manchester City in the English Premier League with a massive 92 points.

“It would be, without the Champions League final, a great season,” Klopp told reporters.

“With the Champions League, winning the Champions League would be a fantastic season. It’s as easy as that.

“There are still levels. That’s absolutely fine, we don’t think because we won two competitions now and were close in a third competition that we wouldn’t care about that. That is, of course, not the case.

“You never know how often you will reach a Champions League final, so you better use the few opportunities you get.

“For us, it is now really special, the third time in the last five years. That is really special with this group.”

Both sides appear close to full strength, with Real naming their entire squad for the Saturday’s final in Paris.

Klopp was upbeat about Thiago Alcantara’s chances of playing, despite coming off at half-time on Sunday against Wolverhampton due to an Achilles issue.

“After the game, I was not really positive about it, but we got news that night that it doesn’t look that bad. We will see,” Klopp said.

Fabinho, who missed Liverpool’s last three games due to a hamstring injury, and Joe Gomez both trained in midweek. Gomez hurt his ankle against Southampton last week.

In a further boost for the Reds, star forward Mohamed Salah declared he’ll be with Liverpool next season, amid transfer speculation over his future.

“I don’t focus on the contract at the moment,” Salah said. “I don’t want to be selfish. I am staying next season for sure.”
