Guided by head coach Jennifer Klein, the University of Michigan women’s soccer team had one of its best seasons in program history, highlighted by a Big Ten Tournament championship, an NCAA Elite Eight appearance and an 18-4-3 overall record.

Team Highlights

• Michigan’s 18 wins tied for the most in program history, and its 12-1-1 home record tied for the best home mark in program history.

• Following a 12-3-3 regular season, U-M earned the No. 3 seed in the Big Ten Tournament with a 6-2-2 conference mark and defeated Penn State 3-1 at U-M Soccer Stadium. The Wolverines then knocked off Purdue 4-1 and top-seeded Rutgers 1-0 in Piscataway, N.J., for the teams first Big Ten Tournament championship since 1999.

• Michigan won its 300th match as a varsity program with a 2-1 win over Cincinnati on Sept. 12.

• U-M advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals for the third time in program history (2002, 2013).

• Heading into the NCAA Tournament, U-M had a 15-3-3 record and rattled off NCAA Tournament wins over Bowling Green (3-0), Wake Forest (2-0) and Tennessee (3-0). However, the Wolverines’ season ended in the quarterfinals with a 1-0 defeat against Florida State, surrendering the lone goal of the match with less than a minute to play in overtime.

• In the final United Soccer Coaches Poll, U-M was ranked No. 7. Michigan began the season unranked in the poll, but was ranked in 10 of 12 iterations. In the NCAA RPI, the Wolverines were as high as No. 6 in match week seven and were…
