Man Utd ‘desperate’ for Barca star to make transfer decision as Ten Hag plans for ‘busy’ window

Reported Man Utd target Frenkie de Jong during a match

Man Utd are looking for a definitive answer from Frenkie de Jong on if he wants to join the club this summer, according to reports.

The Red Devils are expected to be very busy in the summer transfer following their sixth-place finish in the Premier League this season.

Erik ten Hag has recently replaced interim boss Ralf Rangnick following a successful stint in charge of Ajax.

He is reportedly keen on reuniting with De Jong after managing the Dutch playmaker during their time with the Eredivisie club.

Barcelona are likely to offload a number of first-team players this summer given their financial situation, and De Jong – who they signed for £65m – is tipped to be one player to leave.

Spanish outlet Sport (via Caught Offside) claim that Man Utd are ‘desperate’ for a final answer from the Holland international.

The report says that Man Utd are ‘the most interested team’ but will focus on signing another midfielder if De Jong rejects a switch.

Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba are set to leave Old Trafford when their contracts expire next month, meaning midfield reinforcements are necessary.

De Jong recently made it clear that he hopes to play for Barcelona next season. He said: “It has been a disappointing season for us.

“We couldn’t achieve the goals we set at the beginning. But I want to thank the fans for their support this year. We will work hard to do better next season. Proud to be a cule.”

Man Utd’s lack of Champions League football could hinder their chances of signing the 25-year-old.

Ten Hag could spend up to £250m this summer, with De Jong likely to ‘be one of the mainstays of the new project’ at Old Trafford.

It is said that Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested. Sport adds that ‘everything is in the hands of the footballer’.
