PSG star Mbappe reveals two times he has spoken to ‘big club’ Liverpool about a transfer

Kylian Mbappe says he spoke to Liverpool before renewing his contract at Paris Saint-Germain, while he also held talks before leaving Monaco in 2017.

The France international rejected an offer to join Real Madrid on a free transfer with Mbappe choosing to sign a new three-year deal to remain at PSG.

There were also rumours that Mbappe could join Liverpool with his contract expiring in the summer but there were always doubts that the Reds could afford his wage demands.

And Mbappe has now revealed that he did hold talks with Liverpool over a potential move after he was convinced by his mother.

Mbappe told the Daily Telegraph: “We talked a little bit, but not too much. We talked a little bit.”

He added: “I talked to Liverpool because it’s the favourite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool. I don’t know why, you will have to ask her!

“It’s a good club and we met them five years ago [too]. When I was in Monaco I met them. It’s a big club.”

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp recently admitted that the Reds were interested in Mbappe but hinted that they couldn’t compete with other clubs.

“Of course we are interested in Kylian Mbappe, we are not blind,” Klopp said earlier this month.

When pushed on whether there had been talks, Klopp added: “Nothing to say about that. But with Kylian it is all set, all fine. We, of course, like him.

“And if you don’t like him, you have to question yourself. But we cannot be part of these battles between, there must be other clubs involved, but that’s fine.”

Mbappe will reportedly receive around £4m a month at PSG but the Frenchman claims his decision was not about the money.

“We have spoken for months about the sporting project and for just a few minutes we spoke about money,” Mbappe said in a press conference.
