Glazer speaks out on ‘disappointing season’ for Man Utd

Avram Glazer has acknowledged that the 2021/22 season has been a “disappointing” one for Man Utd, while his family “have always invested money” to buy players.

The Glazer family have been United’s owners for 17 years and they remain unpopular among the club’s supporters.

Protests against the owners have taken place in recent months. Man Utd finished sixth in 2021/22 with a record low points total of just 58 points.

In a rare, albeit truncated, interview with Sky Sports, co-chairman Glazer said: “It is a disappointing season.

“It’s a disappointing season for everyone and we’re going to work hard to make next season a better season.”

When pressed on whether United will invest this summer, Glazer added: “We’ve always spent the money necessary to buy new players.”

Glazer seemed initially reluctant to speak on camera but then briefly chatted while on the move during his appearance at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

He also threw his backing behind new manager Erik Ten Hag, who officially started his reign on Monday.

When asked whether he thinks the Dutchman will be a success, Glazer responded: “That’s why we hired him, we know he’ll do a great job.”

Elsewhere, Ten Hag has told his players that “good is not good enough” as he aims to bring “adventurous football” to Old Trafford.

“That is what I expect,” Ten Hag told MUTV. “I have high expectations from myself and that is also what I demand from my squad.

“They have to co-operate together and they have to give every day their best. And I would say, for me, good is not good enough. We have to do better.”

Ten Hag is also keen to implement an exciting and attacking brand of football at Man Utd, he added: “We are playing in the Theatre of Dreams and have to entertain the opponent. We are playing in the opponent’s half and we have to do attacking football.
