Euro Leagues Wrap: Man City & Milan Triumph, Mallorca & Leeds Survive

Manchester City were memorably crowned English champions while AC Milan won the Scudetto with less drama, while Granada, Burnley and Cagliari were among the clubs relegated.

Manchester City crowned champions although they did it the hard way, trailing Aston Villa 2-0 with 15 minutes to go, before Ilkay Gundogan’s double and a Rodri strike clinched a remarkable 3-2 win which was all they needed.

Liverpool finish as runners-up despite an exceptional campaign, collecting 92 points with 28 wins and only two defeats. The Reds finished their season with a 3-1 home win over Wolverhampton and may have thought their title hopes were alive when City trailed.

Tottenham finished the job to secure fourth spot and Champions League football under Antonio Conte with a 5-0 hammering at Norwich City with doubles from Dejan Kulusevski and Son Heung-Min while Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Everton proved in vain.

Burnley were relegated as they lost 2-1 at home to midtable Newcastle. Leeds United escaped the drop zone on the final day, hoping Burnley wouldn’t win and needing to better their result. Leeds did exactly that, triumphing 2-1 at 10-man Brentford, with Jack Harrison’s stoppage-time goal putting an exclamation mark on the triumph.

AC Milan ended more than a decade of waiting for a Scudetto with their 3-0 victory away to Sassuolo securing the title. First-half goals from Olivier Giroud (double) and Franck Kessie put to bed any nerves. Inter Milan won 3-0 over Sampdoria but they needed the Rossoneri to stumble. Lazio, Roma and Fiorentina qualified for the Europa League.
