‘We go again’ – Rice set to stay at West Ham despite Chelsea, Man Utd interest

Declan Rice is reportedly set to stay at West Ham for one more season despite serious interest from Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester United.

Rice has enjoyed a stellar campaign with the Hammers, receiving a nomination for the Premier League’s Young Player of the Year award while also reaching the semi-final of the Europa League.

With West Ham unable to secure Champions League qualification following their defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt, the Englishman had been expected to seek a move away from the club, with Chelsea and United both ready to pounce.

West Ham boss David Moyes has insisted that Rice is ‘not for sale’, attaching a £150m price tag to the young midfielder, but there was always a feeling that if Rice had his heart set on an exit, then a deal could be made possible.

Rice, though, is now ready to commit himself to the club for at least another season, according to the Mirror. That much was evident in his interview after West Ham’s semi-final defeat, when he vowed to “go again” next season.

“We’ve proved that we can play in big European games and our fans and our stadium have shown we can handle those big European nights, and that’s what we want more of,” he said.

“I’m proud of the lads because we’re not the biggest of squads, so to go week in, week out again and again and again, training and playing Thursdays and Sundays, away from home and away from families has been tough, but in the end we’ve had a great year and we’re ready to go again.”

 

 

West Ham forward Michail Antonio spoke to Sky Sports last week about Rice’s future. He said: “Dec has not even touched his best yet. He is unbelievable. What I see every day in training, he’s got so much more to do, got so much more to learn.

“But what he’s doing right now, he’s up there with one of the best in the Premier League already.”
