PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Timbers midfielder Sebastián Blanco was named to the MLS Team of the Week for week 11, the league announced today. Forward Nathan Fogaça was also named to the Team of the Week bench.
Blanco, 34, tallied his first two goals of the season in Saturday’s match against Sporting Kansas City and his fifth MLS career brace, including playoffs, with Portland. Notably, it was the Argentine’s first two goal, two assist career performance. Blanco recorded his fourth career multi-assist game with Portland and the third time registering two assists in a match at Providence Park.
Fogaça, 22, recorded a second-half brace in his MLS debut, playing 70 minutes as a starter. The Brazilian striker became the first Timbers player to notch a brace in their debut with the club.
Up next, Portland will travel to face the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday, May 18 at PayPal Park. The midweek match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. (Pacific) a local television broadcast on FOX 12 PLUS and radio broadcasts on 750 The Game (English) and La GranD 1150AM/93.5 FM (Spanish).
