TUKWILA, WASH. – Tacoma Defiance (3-2-3, 14 points) defeated Real Monarchs (0-5-2, 2 points) 2-0 Sunday evening at Starfire Stadium. Reed Baker-Whiting recorded his first professional goal while Marlon Vargas bagged his first goal of the season as Tacoma’s unbeaten run stretches to four games (2-0-2).

Baker-Whiting got Tacoma on the board early in the fourth minute after a deflected shot bounced to his feet inside the area, where he was able to hammer home the point-blank strike. Defiance doubled its lead in the 54th minute when a Monarchs back-pass was intercepted by Dylan Teves, who was then fouled by Monarchs goalkeeper Gavin Beavers, leaving a wide-open net for Vargas to convert the goal.

Wade Webber’s side hits the road next week as it travels to Colorado for a matchup against Rapids 2 on Sunday, May 22 (8:00p.m. PT / mlsnextpro.com).
