Arsenal central defender to complete £4.5m transfer amid West Ham interest

Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos is set to join Stuttgart on a permanent transfer following his two-year loan spell with the German club.

The Greek defender joined the Gunners for £1.8m in 2018 but struggled for game time at the Emirates under several managers.

He has made eight appearances for Arsenal and looks to have played his last match for the Premier League club.

As per David Ornstein, Stuttgart have the option to permanently sign Mavropanos for £4.5m this summer and are expected to do just that.

This transfer fee is regarded to be significantly below his true market value, with Transfermarkt valuing the 24-year-old at over £15m.

Mavropanos has been superb for Stuttgart – playing 54 times for the Bundesliga outfit – and has attracted interest from numerous clubs across Europe.

Bild (via TEAMtalk) claim that West Ham are preparing a £17m move for the player this summer – meaning Arsenal could lose the player for £4.5m before watching him join an English rival for £12.5m more.

The Hammers were keen on signing a new central defender in the January transfer window with Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna out injured.

This should remain a priority heading into the summer window with Mavropanos emerging as a target.

Another priority for West Ham will be keeping hold of Declan Rice, who has been heavily linked with both Chelsea and Manchester United.

Speaking last week, Irons striker Michail Antonio said that he will be “happy” for Rice whatever he chooses to do this summer.
