May 13, 2022 – Major League Soccer (MLS) – Chicago Fire FC News Release

CHICAGO – Chicago Fire FC today announced a new community partnership with Dawn®, America’s #1 dish liquid*, to help tackle local food insecurity. For every free kick taken by Chicago Fire FC in the 2022 season, Dawn’s “Free Kicks for Free Meals” program will donate 100 free meals to the community.

Chicago Fire FC and Dawn are excited to kick off this new program, where all proceeds will directly go to the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Since the start of the season, Chicago has won 131 free kicks, with the initiative already contributing 13,100 meals to the Chicago community.

“The Fire have been partnering with the Greater Chicago Food Depository for the last ten years to help provide access to food for the Chicago community,” said Vice President, Community Relations, Jessica Yavitz. “The Fire’s core goal as an organization is to give back to the community and to be able to join together with Dawn to fight food insecurity here in Chicago is something we are eternally grateful for.”

“Food insecurity is near to my heart, as I grew up in poverty and my family lived on Food Stamps,” said Dawn Brand Communications Manager Amy Sumontha. “During the pandemic, more people have experienced food insecurity, especially children – not to mention the huge racial disparity amongst those who are impacted. Our Dawn team is thrilled that we can begin making an impact and help feed those in need.”

At the end of the season, Dawn and the Fire will come together with both the community and its supporters to host a volunteer event at the Greater Chicago Food Depository. The fight against food insecurity has also been a pillar of the Chicago Fire Supporters community, with Section 8 Chicago’s “Fire for Food” drive that has been raising money for the past five years to provide meals to Chicagoans through the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
