Newcastle are reportedly ready to take advantage of Ivan Perisic’s contract standoff with Inter Milan and lure him to St James’ Park on a free transfer this summer.
Perisic is out of contract at the end of the season and Newcastle are ready to add his experience to their squad in the off-season.

That’s according to Calciomercato (via Sport Witness), who claim Inter have been ‘in contact with those who have looked after his interests since November’, putting two different renewal offers on the table.
Perisic rejected the first offer of €4m, but his recent performances – which have seen him notch two goals and four assists in their last six Serie A games – have forced them to up their terms to €4.5m, which is ‘slightly less than his current salary’.
The Croatian is thought to be weighing up his options, with Newcastle ‘ready to offer him a slurry of €6.5m/year net per season’.
There is therefore a ‘wide’ gab between the offer from Inter and what Newcastle could give him.
It means Perisic is now ‘faced with a life choice: stay at Inter and in Italy, where he is now perfectly integrated, or to open up a new adventure, starting over with new goals and horizons at 33’.
Meanwhile, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has warned Newcastle fans not to expect lavish spending this summer, despite their new-found wealth.
Asked about reports that his budget could be more modest having spent £90m in the January transfer window, the 44-year-old said: “There’s an element of truth in that.
“With Financial Fair Play, we have restraints and we have things that we have to work within, so we can’t just go out and spend money on players like maybe teams could have done in the past and totally change their squad within one transfer window.
