Old Trafford hierarchy on the hunt for free agents

Manchester United’s hierarchy are looking for bargains this summer after instructing agents to find them the best free transfers, according to a report.

United are preparing for a major overhaul if their squad this summer as Ralf Rangnick passes the reins to Erik ten Hag. Rangnick’s interim reign has not produced the results that United were looking for and the turnover in staff this summer will be high.

Already United have seen top scouts Jim Lawlor and Marcel Bout moved on, while along with transfer negotiator Matt Judge has also left.

Judge, who was brought in by Ed Woodward, resigned last month. He was responsible for transfer negotiations and contract renewals since 2014 – not a particularly successful era for the club.

It’s understood that chief executive Richard Arnold is leading a major revamp of the recruitment department.

Football director John Murtough and technical director Darren Fletcher are expected to have a big say on which player’s United look to recruit.

And there could be as many as 10 new arrivals this summer, according to Rangnick.

Speaking after the humiliating 4-0 defeat at Liverpool, Rangnick said: “There will be a rebuild for sure.

“That was obvious in the first three or four weeks for me.

“There could be six, seven, eight, maybe 10 new players.”

 

Manchester United will lose the likes of Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani on free transfers in the summer.

And The Sun reports that United will be active in recruiting free agents too.

The report claims United have “told agents to find the best free transfers this summer”.

£100m Man Utd budget

There will be money for Ten Hag to spend on Manchester United transfers. A sum of around £100m has been mooted by the source. The Dutch boss is also likely to be able to spend any money he receives on outgoing transfers.
