Luis Diaz’s deflected strike cancelled out Heung-min Son’s goal as Liverpool and Tottenham played out a fascinating 1-1 draw at Anfield.

Liverpool were looking to keep their Premier League title and quadruple hopes alive, while Tottenham were aiming to get ahead of rivals Arsenal in the race for Champions League qualification. The first half went as many would have been expecting.

Liverpool spent most of the 45 minutes in the Tottenham half, with Antonio Conte’s side attempting to catch them on the counter-attack.

Surprisingly, it was Virgil van Dijk who was Liverpool’s biggest threat. The centre-back headed wide from a corner in the 22nd minute but had better aim later on. He rose above Cristian Romero to send an effort goalwards, only to see it hit the crossbar.

A few minutes later, Liverpool pinched the ball from Dejan Kulusevski, allowing Diaz to play a nice one-two with Sadio Mane. Diaz then attempted to bend a shot into the far corner, only for Hugo Lloris to be equal to his effort.

Tottenham went straight up the other end and had a good chance of their own. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg sent a low drive towards Alisson’s goal from far out, and the Brazilian keeper was lucky to see it come back off the post.

Tottenham opened the scoring in the second half. Emerson sent a looping pass up to Harry Kane, who brought it down unchallenged.

Three touches later and the ball was in the back of the Liverpool net, as Kane played into Ryan Sessegnon’s path and he set up Heung-min Son for a simple finish.
